Art Education Is Disappearing, Yet It Matters Now More Than Ever

Over the last decade, elementary schools across the country have seen dramatic cuts in arts funding—with some schools losing up to a third of their arts staff, and half of K‑5 students no longer getting any art instruction at all. That creative activity time—painting, drawing, sculpting, imagining—is now a rare treat or entirely gone, replaced by a heavy focus on standardized testing and “core” subjects.
What’s Lost When Art Disappears
Art education brings far more than pretty pictures—it helps kids develop critical thinking, creative problem-solving, emotional expression, and collaboration. Students learn to think outside the box, process feelings, and see the world through new lenses. In some classrooms, art is the highlight of the day—where kids truly shine. Sadly, the broader focus on test prep has squeezed it out .

That’s Where PLAYDAY Comes In
Founded in 2017, PLAYDAY provides super fun, supportive, no-screen art spaces where kids can truly create. Whether after school, during camps, or at birthday parties, our trained instructors guide children through hands-on projects—painting, sculpture, printmaking and more—while nurturing confidence, emotional growth, and imaginative expression.
